About Neil Whittaker

Neil Whittaker is one of UK's and Europe's top florists. He has studied around the world and gained his National Diploma in Florist, (NDSF) in 1998 and his American Institute of Floral Design (AIFD) in 2000.Neil has been an ambassador for Smithers-Oasis UK since 2001 and has worked for many key organisations within the florist, industry, including the Flower Council of Holland. In 2007/10 Neil was the British Florist Associations UK Retail Florist of the Year 2007/10 and Interflora Florist of the Year 2007/10/13, Fleurop-Interflora World Cup Berlin 2015 1st Runner Up.

He was 4th Place in the Europa Cup in Slovenia 2007, and also 3rd Place In the Europa Cup in Czech Republic 2010 the highest position ever achieved by a British florist. Neil became the Croatian Champion in 2011 Split. Neil has won three Chelsea Gold Medals in 2003/04/09 and became Chelsea Florist of the Year in 2009.

Neil has operated a shop and floral design school at The Design Element in Manchester for almost 30 years and has a wide range of high profile clients throughout the North West of England and beyond.

Some of Neil's work was recently on display at the prestigious Lowry Gallery, another first for a British florist.

Neil has represented the UK around the world.Neil has been an ambassador for Smithers-Oasis UK since 2001 and has worked for many key organisations within the florist, industry, including the Flower Council of Holland. The Independent on Sunday and his work has appeared in many magazines and design books over the years, including Fusion Flowers, The Best of British, International Annual Floral Art 2006/07 and The Spirit of the Rose. He has also featured on TV and radio shows, and in 2008 Neil was asked to provide the flowers for a national TV stations flagship dream wedding competition.

Workshop Highlights
  • 1) Hand tied designs to be delivered in their own water source (water bubble) to help increase the longevity of the arrangement.
  • 2) Various Wrapping and presentation techniques to accentuate the size and wow factor while maximizing the profitability of the designs.
  • 3) Use of nest of foliage with the spiral technique.
  • 4) Use of aluminum wire to make a heart shaped bouquet also using the spiral technique that uses minimum flowers to maximum effect.
  • 5) Single flower presentation
  • 6) Mechanics to secure arrangements while transporting.
